About Yishu

Visual Artist丨Musician丨Educator

As a Chinese-born female visual artist and musician, Yishu incorporates her Asian identity into her artistic creations to positively impact multicultured communities through the arts. She graduated with honors from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts in Painting and a Bachelor’s in Arts in Japanese. She is currently studying at Harvard University, pursuing a Master of Education in Human Development and Education with a concentration in Arts and Learning. 


Yishu’s visual art practice primarily involves painting and drawing. Her love of portraiture is evident in how she captures the essence of her human subjects, revealing their innermost thoughts and feelings in an authentic and profoundly moving way. She finds inspiration in the intricate web of human relationships and their accompanying emotions, capturing the beauty of simple interactions in daily life and the complex and nuanced emotions that underlie them. From 2022 to 2023, Yishu has participated in several group exhibitions at prestigious institutions and galleries, including a recent exhibition at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA (2023), as well as past exhibitions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA (2022), Art One Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ (2022), and Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ (2022).


Yishu grew up playing piano and attended professional music schools since elementary school. She studied composition and Electronic Music after she arrived in the US. She loves writing various genres of music, and she has been a cover singer since middle school. Yishu is soon to be a degree-seeking student studying Songwriting and Producing Music at the Berklee College of Music, where she is expected to explore genres of music writing and finish her capstone project on publishing an album.
